Formula 1 | Sainz thinks of winning again, not Mercedes F1 comeback

Sainz thinks of getting back to winning ways,

Ferrari is only 35 points ahead of Mercedes F1 in the constructors’ championship. Should the Scuderia start looking behind them rather than trying to beat Red Bull for wins?

The question was posed to Carlos Sainz in Singapore: is he concerned about the increasingly fast pace of the 2021 world champions?

“We are mainly concerned with getting back to winning ways, more than the pace of Mercedes,” replies the Spaniard.

« Honestly, if we know we can start winning again before the end of the season, then the battle with Mercedes should be settled. Our two cars still qualify in the top three, top four. So yes, we have to find that race pace, like we did at Monza: we had much better race pace and that way we won’t be overtaken on Sunday by the Mercedes, we just have to focus on trying to be faster than Red Bull whenever we can, and that should settle the battle for the championship. »

How would he therefore define, according to him, a good end to the season during the 6 races that remain, in terms of results and personal approach?

“Personally, I would like six regular races, a bit of a build-up before next year. Because this year, for me, has been characterized by never having more than two or three good races in a row. always had a reliability problem, a bad pit stop, a strategy problem… »

« When you’re about to have a good racing streak, that’s important. Because in Formula 1 you like to gain some momentum and build confidence in the team and in yourself. We come out of Monza, which was a pretty solid race for me. Fighting for pole position, even with a penalty, was good. So yeah, hopefully from now on we’ll have a few more moments like that, just more podiums and, more importantly, a win. I think it would be ideal to prevent Red Bull from breaking records and above all to get back on a good track until next year. »
