Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes F1’s head of track engineering, can go on holiday with peace of mind. After the double podium of the Grand Prix de France, the team did it again on a circuit where it didn’t expect to be so strong, at the hungaro ring
Mercedes did not come far short of victory but had it not been for a concern from DRS on Saturday for Lewis Hamilton, who was flying in terms of race pace, he could have had his say by starting higher on the grid. George Russell had indeed signed the pole.
« Bravo to the whole team for this great conclusion to the first part of the season! The team and the drivers can be very proud of how we have made up for this weekend after a scary Friday. »
« George’s first pole and the team’s first with the W13 was a great achievement and another double podium is a great way to go on vacation. »
« We still need a little more to get that first win of the season, but every week it feels like it’s getting closer and closer and the team is determined to reach the top step quickly. »
Shovlin admits it, Mercedes F1 suffered a lot during the first 13 races of the year.
« It’s been the toughest start to the season we’ve had in a long time, but it’s hugely satisfying to see the team and the drivers working so hard to bring the car to the level we need. »
« Everyone has been looking forward to this summer break for some time, to rest and rejuvenate, but we will want to pick up where we left off at Spa and hope to finish the year strong. »
