Mercedes F1 had an amazing weekend in Singapore, with strong qualifying performances and a tough Sunday, unlike the usual situation where the team shines in race pace. Toto Wolff reflects on this weekend and how his team wants to bounce back.

“It was a very difficult Sunday for us in Singapore,” sorry Wolff. « There were still positives to take as we saw glimpses of the pace and potential of the car. But we couldn’t convert that into points in the race itself, although the car showed that she was competitive in the open air. »

« We’ve had a lot to debrief and analyze over the last few days and a lot of lessons to learn. Fortunately, we can quickly move on to the next race and a new challenge ahead. »

« Our aim is to pick up the momentum we had before Singapore and capitalize on the positive underlying performance of the car. There are still five opportunities to score some good points and end the year on a high. »

The Mercedes W13 should be less at ease in Japan, on a route that gives pride of place to stability and aerodynamic performance. Nevertheless, Wolff does not despair of signing a good result at Suzuka, where F1 returns after a two-year absence.

“Suzuka is going to pose some problems for our package, and it will be difficult to repeat the qualifying performance we saw in Singapore, but hopefully that will be offset by a stronger Sunday afternoon.”

« F1 hasn’t been to Japan since 2019 and the team can’t wait to get back there. It’s a very special circuit, one of the toughest for both man and machine. And all the brilliant We also missed the Japanese fans. »
