Formula 1 | Mercedes F1 lists its goals for the end of the 2022 season

Mercedes F1 lists its objectives (...)

This week, Toto Wolff has given Mercedes F1 a goal: to try to close the 35-point gap with Ferrari in the constructors’ championship.

This 2nd place in the championship could act as a consolation prize for the reigning world champions, after a particularly difficult start to the season. The consistency of the drivers and the optimization of the results in each race or almost allows us to dream of this unexpected place even before the summer break.

But is it realistic? The technical director, Mike Elliott, thinks so and lists the possible objectives to be achieved.

« We want to try to beat Ferrari for this 2nd position; we want to try to win a race this season, or several races ideally; and above all, we want to get back on track in order to fight properly for a championship next year. «

« It’s no disrespect to our rivals – we have fantastic rivals in Ferrari and Red Bull – but that’s what we really aim to do. We want to be back at the top in 2023, we want to play championships. »

Is the best chance of victory in Singapore? It’s very likely he says.

« When you look at the learning we’ve accumulated over the season, I think we expect Singapore to be a bit more like Budapest and Zandvoort. It’s a bumpy circuit, which will come with its own challenges, but in terms of the nature of the corners, we think it will be a bit better for our car. »

« As always, we’ll do all the simulation work we need to do, we’ll maximize our learning in the free sessions, and hopefully we can turn that into a really good result this coming weekend. »
