“Focus on the present” – Nyck de Vries will compete at Le Mans alongside defending his title in Formula E after missing a Formula 1 place next season.
Nyck de Vries has had an outstanding motorsport journey at the age of 26, having already won the Formula 2 and Formula E titles, the latter this year.

Nevertheless, the Mercedes driver could not get a place in Formula 1 in the coming season and lost to drivers like Alex Albon (Williams) and Guanyu Zhou (Alfa Romeo).
When asked whether his Mercedes association had a negative effect on his chances in the premier class, he did not answer, but instead focused on the categories in which he is currently active – Formula E, Le Mans and IndyCar (test) as well as as the substitute driver of the Mercedes F1 team.
“I do not know.
“There’s always a lot of talk in Formula 1. There is always news. But the only way to keep my career going is to stay on the right track. That’s the most important. Regardless of who I’m driving for.
“I’m incredibly grateful for everything I can do right now. I’m really enjoying the combination of Formula E and long-distance races.
“I just don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I am a very realistic person and I focus on the present. I’ve also had the experience: sometimes things change very quickly. That’s why I’m looking forward to the new season.
“Then we will fight to defend the title with Mercedes. And I’m sure that if I keep doing my best, there will be new opportunities. I don’t know where. We will see.”
