The new FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has sent a message to Lewis Hamilton to clarify the star’s future in Formula 1. Speculation is mounting that Hamilton, 37, might retire from the sport after the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December – a race that ultimately cost him the drivers’ title.
The FIA has now launched a full investigation into the Abu Dhabi incident and has promised to present all conclusions to the teams by February 3rd, the date of the next World Motorsport Council meeting.
All drivers, stewards and officials involved in the drama, as well as Masi himself, will be interviewed during a “transparent and thorough” investigation promised by the organization.
Peter Bayer, the FIA’s General Secretary for Motorsport, is in charge of the proceedings, but also Ben Sulayem, who replaced Jean Todt just five days after the season finale, is involved and has contacted Hamilton.
“Mohammed Ben Sulayem came in and made it a matter of urgency that this be resolved,” said Sky Sports F1’s Craig Slater.

Slater also suggests that the key to Hamilton’s future lies in the final outcome of the results.
“Mercedes and Hamilton are waiting to see what the FIA brings out, and if it’s something substantial enough then yes, they will move on,” he continued.
“But don’t rule out that Lewis won’t move on if the results don’t mean the change they expect or hope for.”
