Fernando Alonso described the schedule for the end of the Formula 1 season as “strange”. The Formula 1 circuit will start the second race of a Triple Header this weekend in Brazil before heading to the first Qatar Grand Prix the following week.

After a week’s break, the season ends with successive races in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.

The 40-year-old Spaniard, who returned to F1 at the beginning of the season after a three-year absence, has questioned the organization’s decision to end the campaign so physically and mentally.

In what is already a very busy season, Alonso believes that both the drivers and the team mechanics are being pushed to their limits.

“This triple header is not the most comfortable,” said the 2005 and 2006 world champion before leaving Mexico.

“Each race is separated by 12 hours [on a] Plane or something. And we have to race three weekends in a row.

“It is important for the team, for the mechanics, to save energy. They’re in the garage, packing everything, they’re getting ready late, they’re going to take a plane, arrive in Brazil, and they’re going to pack everything and assemble the garage. So it’s definitely at the limit for them. “

He added, “Hopefully we can find better calendar solutions because Austin is an hour and a half from Mexico. And we were in Austin two weeks ago.

“It feels strange that some races are two weeks apart and some of the races that take place on a different continent are back to back.”

Alonso also commented on the exciting championship fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Vertsappen, the latter leading the race on the Interlagos circuit this Sunday with a 19 point lead.

DO NOT MISS

He assumes that Hamilton will not be able to maintain his highest level for the remainder of the campaign.

“Do I think Lewis will give in to the pressure? Yes, thanks to Max. 100 percent,” Alonso told De Telegraaf.

“If Lewis only has to fight for the title with his team-mate Valtteri Bottas, everything will be great. Now he feels pressure and gets into trouble.”

However, Alonso stated that he admires both Hamilton and Verstappen for what they can do on the track.
