One of the most anticipated F1 seasons is finally here. The Bahrain Grand Prix marked the beginning of the season-long journey. As the sport moves to its round 2 at Saudi Arabia this week, the Spanish Grand Prix is already full house.

F1 moves to Jeddah this weekend for the second race of the season. However, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has already sold out their tickets by this time. The Spanish Grand Prix is set to take place in the later part of May this year.

In a Twitter post, posted by Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya’s official Twitter handle, they conveyed, “The #F1 #SpanishGP is SOLD OUT! This year the Circuit will be a great party thanks to all of you. #PelouseJove We are working to expand the original capacity, if you don’t have your ticket yet… stay tuned to our social networks”

What makes the F1 Spanish Grand Prix one of the most anticipated races?
The circuit has a capacity of around 140,700 people and the authority is working on increasing the capacity further. It has 16 turns and has a length of 4,675 km (2,905 mi). The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has FIA Grade 1 license. Apart from hosting F1, the circuit hosts a lot of other motorsports, including MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship.
F1 has already been to Spain this year. The teams had their pre-season testing there just after their official challenger launch for this season. Constructors went through a bit of shakedown in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya before they moved to Bahrain for another set of pre-season testing.

The Spanish Grand Prix is one of the oldest races in the world. Having celebrated its centenary in 2013, the event held its first race in 1913, even before World War I. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton hold the record of most wins here with six victories each.
As for the track, it has been built in 1991. The circuit de Catalunya began to host races soon after. However, one shouldn’t confuse Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with that of the Montjuïc circuit. However, the Montjuic circuit has also hosted the Spanish Grand Prix a couple of times before it was removed from the calendar for good.

At the Constructors level, Ferrari has claimed most of their wins here with a total of 12 wins. As of 2021, Lewis Hamilton won the Spanish race, followed by Max Verstappen of Red Bull and Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes taking the podium places.
