Jos Verstappen opened a stylish exchange with Lewis Hamilton’s father shortly after the Abu Dhabi race last week. Max Verstappen won the F1 drivers’ championship for the first time under controversial circumstances. But despite the agonizing loss of his son, Anthony Hamilton retained his dignity.
Last weekend was an eventful one in Formula 1, with Hamilton watching his dominance of the sport end under overwhelming circumstances by Verstappen.
The Brit led for most of the race but missed the glory after a problem with the safety car.
Mercedes made two appeals to have the result of the race annulled, but in the end, Verstappen was crowned the sport’s newest champion.
While his team was furious, Hamilton maintained his integrity by congratulating the Red Bull star on his triumph – and vowing to do whatever it takes to make history for the next season.
And his dad explained what Anthony did after the hectic event, according to Verstappen’s own dad.
“When I sat with Max before he went on the podium, [Lewis’ father] Anthony was there, “he said.

“He congratulated us, that was really nice.
“I also had a few conversations with him on WhatsApp during the season. He is really nice.
“They have already won seven titles, it’s a little different for them than the first, but he’s always respectful.”
While Hamilton’s father was ready to accept the result, the Briton’s brother, Nicolas, went wild on social media immediately afterwards.
“THE REAL CHAMPION!” he said.
“The FIA broke its own rules, which is a shame for our sport as a whole. Even so, despite their mistreatment, the Hamiltons were modestly defeated today.
“My father, the guy who raised us, congratulates Max and his father Jos.
“People can say what they want, but my father’s gesture proves that all doubters and haters are wrong and shows who we are as ‘The Hamilton’s’.
“The proof that people are wrong is in our DNA, which Lewis does every day. In defeat with absolute professionalism and decency, even though we all know he was let down by the sport he gave so much to .
“Congratulations to Max for such a fantastic season from him.”
Verstappen said earlier this week that he and his entire team “went nuts” when they were confirmed as the season’s winners.
“I was – and the whole team – crazy,” he said.
“But of course there is also the other side, where they are very disappointed and angry.
“I think the nice thing was that Lewis came to me straight away [to say] ‘Well done, congratulations,’ you know.
“And I said, ‘Thank you for a great season,’ because at the end of the day I think it was like that.
“Whoever won or finished second, we pushed each other to the limit in every race, with ourselves, but also with the car and the whole team.”
Then, on his rivalry with Hamilton, he added, “It was definitely a great rivalry.
“But yes, everyone is very happy that the season is over to take a little break because it was very tense and very tough for everyone.”
Verstappen is guaranteed to return for the next season.
While Hamilton has vowed to be back, speculation has surfaced suggesting he might retire from the sport.
