The F1 2022 driver market is one for the books. The talk about the future of the teams has taken the community by storm. From now on, the teams are waiting for Mercedes to fix their second seat. The extension or termination of Valtteri’s contract opens up new opportunities for other teams. That includes Williams. Should George Russell be chosen by the Silver Arrows, Williams would have his seat open to new opportunities.

Team boss Jost Capito announced that he is in no hurry to name the seat. Still, they keep an eye on potential candidates. Among them is Nico “Hulk” Hulkenberg, a driver who began his Formula 1 career with the team.

“At the moment we are not ruling out a driver who will be available for the next year; and Nico is available for next year. “However, Capito doesn’t reveal much about his prospects and says,” But we have a pretty long waiting list. “

The current third Aston Martin driver, who donned a pink racing suit last year, switched to Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll when they tested positive for the coronavirus.

Will Hulkenberg return to Formula 1?

In 2019, Renault closed the doors of the German when the team welcomed Esteban Ocon. He had raced with the team for three years and impressed on the track. However, he has had a track record of 176 races without ever jumping on the podium. Ex-team boss Cyril Abiteboul brought in Ocon as a replacement to improve the team.

Three years ago, in an interview with Formula 1, Nico said: “I’m not finished with racing, it’s not the end of my career yet. Whether there is a return in ’21 or ’22 or not, or God knows when … but to me it doesn’t feel like ‘The End’. ”

It wasn’t necessarily the end for the driver as he was back on the F1 track for a successful race with Racing Point. Although he was unable to compete in the British GP while replacing Perez, his race instead of Stroll showed his true colors. It was also something special to see Nico back on track at the 70th anniversary GP, where he qualified third and finished seventh.

As the third Aston Martin driver, it may be time to see Hulkenberg back on the grid. Maybe Hulkenberg was right. There is always hope for driver # 27 to be back on track and hopefully with the advances made in the sport coupled with a good car like Williams, he has a fighting chance to finally take the podium.
