During last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix, Haas driver Romain Grosjean suffered a traumatic accident when his car pierced the barrier and caught fire during a 67G impact. The Frenchman remained trapped in the wreck for almost half a minute before he was able to free himself and escape.

He walked away with badly burned hands, but nothing life threatening, which was nothing short of a miracle.

While he was recovering in the hospital, Grosjean received a promise from Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff regarding a future opportunity to drive a Mercedes.AMG F1 car. Wolff seems to be a man of his word.

After a strong career with a total of 179 starts and 10 podiums, Grosjean will again do a series of demonstration laps in a Formula 1 car on June 27 at the French Grand Prix before enjoying a full day of testing (June 29) on the Circuit Paul Ricard at the wheel of Lewis Hamilton’s W10 racer, who won the title in 2019 – a car that posted 15 wins, 10 pole positions and nine fastest laps between the two drivers two years ago.

Grosjean, who currently competes with RWR in the IndyCar series for Dale Coyne Racing, was invited to the Mercedes F1 base in Brackley on March 30th to undergo seat adjustments and spend time with the team’s simulator. The former Haas driver said he was grateful to both Mercedes and Toto Wolff for this opportunity.

One person who is definitely excited to see Grosjean in an F1 car again is none other than current defending champion Lewis Hamilton, who is looking forward to welcoming him to the team for the French GP weekend.

“He takes better care of my W10,” Hamilton said jokingly, adding how relieved he was to see Grosjean walk away from such a terrible accident and recover as well as he did.
