F1 boss 'optimistic' at 'unacceptable divide' ending after Red Bull cruise in 2022 | F1 | Sports

As part of F1 owner Liberty Media’s revamp of Grand Prix racing that has included new cars, they endeavored to ensure that the gap between the big spending teams and the others decreased. This included the introduction of a cost cap, a change in the distribution of prize money and aero testing restrictions that give more development time to the least developed teams.

The sport has been dominated by Red Bull and Mercedes since 2010, with the Silver Arrows capturing seven drivers titles in that period, while Christian Horner’s men have taken the other six. They have also split all the constructors titles over the last 12 years and both teams look set to fight for the top honors again next season.

Speaking at the end of 2018, when there had been just two podium finishes over two years from a team outside of the top three, Brawn said: “Two podiums from a total of 123 [across the two seasons] is unacceptable, especially when it comes with an ever-increasing technical and financial divide. It’s a problem we are tackling together with the FIA and the teams, because the future of Formula 1 depends on it.
