Former McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has been named Group CEO of Aston Martin Performance Technologies and is set to turn it into a $ 1.4 billion business.
Whitmarsh will start working in early October overseeing the new branch of Aston Martin, which will include the Formula 1 team and bring the broader corporation’s technical capabilities to market in a manner similar to what he did at McLaren Applied Technologies. Whitmarsh was with McLaren for 25 years, left him in 2014 as team principal and was most recently on the Hamilton Commission.
“I have known and admired Lawrence (Stroll) for many years and have always been impressed by his impressive business acumen and seemingly inexhaustible ambition,” said Whitmarsh. “Likewise, I have always respected ‘Team Silverstone’, if I may call it that, which in its various previous incarnations has often beaten over its weight and which now has the weight to hit harder than ever.
“Lawrence intends for the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team to simply win the Formula One World Championship.

Aston Martin CEO Stroll announced that Whitmarsh will work with him to make the team successful in both athletic and financial terms.
“Martin will have leadership responsibilities and will assist and support me in defining the new strategic direction for Aston Martin Performance Technologies and its subsidiaries, including the key objective of transforming the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 team into a Formula 1 World Championship conduct.
