Müller is currently in his second season in FE with Dragon and scored the team’s first podium in the Gen2 era at the first race in Valencia. He finished second after Mercedes driver Nyck de Vries.
However, the Swiss driver is not available for the first visit to the championship in Puebla, as he will be competing against the DTM in Monza, where he will compete for Audi Team Rosberg.
Eriksson, who was also signed as a reserve driver for Dragon for the rest of the season, was called in as his successor.
The 22-year-old, who finished second in the 2017 Formula 3 European Championship behind today’s McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris, took part in the rookie test in Marrakech last year together with Sergio Sette Camara.
After two seasons of his own in the DTM with BMW, he switched to the ADAC GT Masters last season and drove for the Schubert Motorsport team.
“Driving in Formula E has always been a dream since the championship began, and getting the chance feels kind of unreal,” said Eriksson. “There is a lot of work ahead of us, but I have a great team behind me. I know they will do whatever they can to prepare me as well as they can before they come to Mexico.
“This time it will be a challenge as I only have limited mileage in this car. However, my main goal is to make the most of it and get as much experience as possible. I believe that if I do well, it is absolutely possible to score points in the races. I will give everything to achieve this goal. “
Despite Muller’s podium in Valencia, Dragon only ranks 11th out of 12 teams in the overall standings. The only other points of the team are achieved thanks to a fourth and fifth place for Sette Camara and Muller in the second Diriyah race.
“I’m happy to welcome Joel back to the team,” said team principal Jay Penske. “He is a valuable resource for the organization and has tremendous potential to apply his racing skills to the unique demands of Formula E and deliver results to the team on the track in Puebla and behind the scenes for the remainder of the season. I’m looking forward to our first race together. “
