Elkann thinks Ferrari lineup better than Red Bull and Mercedes

Elkann thinks Ferrari lineup better than Red Bull and Mercedes

John Elkann has informed the shareholders of Exor, an investment company with a minority stake in Ferrari, that he expects a lot from Ferrari next season. The Ferrari president calls Charles Leclerc and Carlos the best driver duo in Formula 1 this year.

“With five podium results and third place in the constructors’ championship, last year’s Formula One season has shown some encouraging signs. But now the company is focusing on the challenge that 2022 brings, knowing that with Leclerc and Sainz the Scuderia has the best driver duo on the grid, who have started the season well,” Elkann shared according to La Gazetta Dello Sport.

Ferrari seems to have things well in hand in terms of drivers for the time being. Charles Leclerc is still locked in with the Maranello-based team until 2024, while Carlos Sainz will soon sign a longer and improved commitment. Elkann, with these words, is perhaps unintentionally putting a little pressure on Ferrari’s Formula One team. There is no better lineup at the moment, according to the 46-year-old top executive, and so the continued development of F1-75 will become crucial.

Your opinion

What do you guys think? With Leclerc and Sainz, does Ferrari actually have the best duo under contract? Red Bull Racing is not in bad shape either with Max Verstappen and the ever-improving Sergio Perez, while George Russell as Lewis Hamilton’s teammate experienced a fine first two Grands Prix on behalf of Mercedes.
