The current number one in the world, imposing on his unfortunate opponent, produced dazzling tennis to beat the Lithuanian 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. The win put Djokovic in the last 16 in Roland-Garros for the 12th time in a row.

Exuberant in praising the Serb, Courier compared the fluidity and sheer dominance of the game he wielded over his opponent to Hamilton driving past the checkered flag in his Mercedes F1 car.

The American said while Berankis wasn’t a mean driver, Djokovic appeared to drive a very different car.

“It’s like the dominance of Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes team. Berankis is a great driver, he maximizes everything under the hood. But Novak Djokovic drives a completely different racing car, ”said Courier.

He added that the Serb can control the pace of the game any way he wants, the Lithuanian doesn’t have similar skills.

“Berankis can’t do the same things. He cannot race on the same track straight away. Novak can drive as he wants, ”added the American.

In response to Courier’s fervent praise, Djokovic said he was honored to be compared to the champion as he happens to be one of the athletes who truly inspire him.

“I am honored to be compared to Lewis. I respect Lewis and everything he does in his career, ”said the Serb.

Djokovic says his driving is an embarrassment compared to Hamilton

However, he cheekily added that he would be embarrassed if his name was taken in the same breath as Hamilton when it came to driving a car.

“To be honest, it’s embarrassing to talk about my driving style and in the same sentence with Hamilton. I like to drive fast, but I think I have to respect the rules, ”he added.
