Daniel Ricciardo “in peace” with the prospect of never winning a world title

Daniel Ricciardo "in peace" with the prospect of never winning a world title

McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo says he is happy with the idea of never having a chance to win a Formula 1 championship if his career goes like this from then on.

Ricciardo, the winner of eight races, including this year’s Italian Grand Prix in Monza, is considered one of the most talented drivers in F1 but hasn’t yet had the car to fight for a car.

The Australian joined Red Bull in 2014 after the team won four straight championships, only to see his breakout season overtaken by Mercedes this year with the introduction of V6 turbo engines.

Subsequent moves to Renault and McLaren this year have left Ricciardo locked in midfield, although it is hoped the aerodynamic rule change next year will mess up the current competition order.

Speaking to F1 podcast Beyond The Grid, Ricciardo said, “There was a time when I was a bit bitter like, ‘I should have had a title now, that sucks, why not me, wrong place, wrong time ? “, Or this or that.

“But maybe that’s the growth in me or the maturity that I don’t think about anymore. I’m still here because I believe I can win a title and I want to win a title.”

“But I’m at peace with whatever happens, as long as I go out and leave everything behind, I’ll find fulfillment.”

Ricciardo added, “The goal is to become world champion and I think that’s why I’ll wake up every morning wanting to do it. But I don’t want that to dictate all my happiness.”

“I’ve been doing this for 10 years. I’m not a world champion yet so there is no guarantee it will happen.

“I just don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket and then be miserable for the rest of my life because I didn’t.

“The victory in Monza was probably all I needed to bring myself all the luck in 2021. It also proved that you can get so much not only with the world title.”

Ricciardo and his F1 rivals are competing in the US Grand Prix this weekend. The race will be broadcast live on ABC on October 24th at 1:30 p.m.
