Daniel Ricciardo was described as a “minor disappointment” by Stoffel Vandoorne in the recently concluded 2021 F1 season.

Vandoorne is a former F1 driver with two seasons with McLaren. The Belgian is currently a test driver for Mercedes. In addition to Nyck de Vries, he also drives for the Mercedes Formula E team.

Speaking to Belgian broadcaster RTBF, Vandoorne said of Ricciardo’s first season with his former team:

“If I had to point out a little disappointment about the season, I would almost say Daniel Ricciardo.”

Vandoorne paid tribute to the Australian’s win at Monza but after weighing his season overall he said:

“It’s true that he won at Monza, but in general he was a bit behind Lando Norris when he is usually the leader in the teams he drives for. If you take away his win in Italy, 2021 will be a somewhat difficult season for Daniel. “

Daniel Ricciardo joined McLaren in 2021 and moved to Renault’s French team after a difficult two-year period. However, 2021 was anything but easy for the 32-year-old from Perth.

Ricciardo’s win in Monza was his only podium of the season. In the course of 2021 he was qualified 15: 7 by his teammate Lando Norris. The Australian finished the year in 8th place in the drivers’ standings with 115 points. Norris, on the other hand, ended up in 6th place with 160 points.

Daniel Ricciardo had a hard time getting used to the McLaren with its new Mercedes engine for most of the 2021 season. With regulatory changes for the 2022 season, it remains to be seen how quickly he can adapt to the new car.

Daniel Ricciardo’s Monza win 2021 is predicted by Pierre Gasly

Daniel Ricciardo’s return to the top step of the podium in 2021 was predicted by Alpha Tauris’ Pierre Gasly.

Gasly won the 2020 Italian Grand Prix in Monza in a dramatic way. Both Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo are products of the Red Bull Junior Team led by Dr. Helmut Marko.

A video posted by F1 on its social media channels shows the Frenchman correctly predicting a win for Daniel Ricciardo’s future at the start of the season. Check it out here:

Gasly himself suffered a DNF at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix when Ricciardo took the eighth career win. It was also the Australian’s first Formula 1 win since winning the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix with Red Bull.
