However, recent developments related to INEOS ‘entry as shareholders have meant that Daimler will soon step down from its more dominant position.

At the end of 2020, Mercedes made a groundbreaking announcement that Toto Wolff, Daimler and INEOS would be equally involved in the Stuttgart team.

While Wolff and INEOS got a significant percentage, Daimler had to sell a portion of their stake to get a three-way ownership tie of 33.3% each, which ultimately added up to roughly the total value of the team.

However, the statement also made it clear that the German giants Daimler will continue to run the team’s affairs. Hence, it looked like their leadership on the team will be an unending saga, but there seems to be a turn in history.

5 months have passed and it looks like the deal is still ongoing. Once the trio has successfully completed the sale, Daimler no longer has control over the racing team.

What is the scenario for Mercedes after the sale?

As reported by RacingNews365, Daimler officially confirmed that once the sale was successfully completed, they would have no control over the Mercedes F1 team.

“We assume that we will emerge from this in the first half of 2021. After that we expect that Daimler no longer has control over the Formula 1 team, ”said the company in the latest financial report.

With Daimler finally stepping down after a decade, there will be concerns about possible changes in the team. However, it looks like Mercedes AMG won’t change the name of the works team from now on.

In addition, Mercedes will continue to supply engines to two of its trusted customers, Aston Martin and Williams. And there won’t be any changes to the arrangements with the two teams.

The biggest fear, however, is whether Mercedes will be able to continue its shape after the massive shift.

Given the huge success Daimler has achieved over the years, will INEOS and Wolff do even better for the team? Or could this be the beginning of their decline in F1?
