Bottas will take part in the Race of Champions 2022 in Sweden

After years of racing in stadiums around the world, ROC is returning to its off-road roots with a course on the frozen Baltic Sea in the Swedish seaside resort of Pite Havsbad.

Located near the Arctic Circle, the organizers have named the ROC-Sweden route as the “fastest and widest” route of the event in history.

Mercedes F1 star Bottas is the newest name on the list of participants for the all-star event in the off-season, alongside Scandinavians Tom Kristensen, Johan Kristoffersson, Mattias Ekstrom and Petter Solberg as well as Travis Pastrana.

He will also represent Team Finland in the ROC Nations Cup, with the identity of his teammate yet to be revealed.

Bottas, who is currently third in the F1 Drivers’ Championship, recently announced that in 2022, after five years as a team-mate from Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, he will join Alfa Romeo, bringing in nine Grand Prix victories so far.

The 32-year-old Finn also has a lot of off-road experience as he competed three times in the Arctic Lapland Rally and achieved a class podium in January this year.

“I am very happy to finally be able to compete in the Race of Champions after many years on television,” said Bottas.

“The fact that this year’s event takes place on snow and ice makes it even more interesting.

“I’ve competed in the Arctic Rally a few times so I hope this experience helps to beat the tough competition and especially our Nordic neighbors from Sweden and Norway to contribute to Finland’s many victories in both individual and ROC . ” Nations Cup. “

In addition to its new off-road format, reminiscent of its early days in Gran Canaria, ROC has committed to making its first sustainable excursion in Sweden, including using fossil biofuels and reintroducing electric cars.

At the event, the electric rallycross car FIA RX2e and the new 425 hp 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport from Porsche will be presented by Porsche, which will also provide the organizers with an electric fleet.
