Charles Leclerc was a disappointed man after the Belgium GP in Spa. He was touted to be the closest competitor to Max Verstappen, but Ferrari and bad luck on multiple occasions have not helped his case. He now finds himself 98 points behind leader Verstappen in the championship.

It would be an understatement to call Leclerc’s season average. He enjoyed a dream start to the season after getting 2 race wins and a podium in the first 3 races of the season. However, it all went south, and he now finds himself below Sergio Perez in the championship.

It’s safe to say that Ferrari has not fulfilled their role in helping Charles Leclerc fight for the championship. In light of this, having something which even the great Michael Schumacher didn’t have can be a curse. Charles signed a multi-year deal with Ferrari. This means that even if did want to leave the Italian constructors, he can’t.

However, an interesting clause in Leclerc’s contract allows him to leave Ferrari. The condition, however, would only activate if Ferrari were to finish lower than third in the constructors’ standings. To paint a better picture, Mercedeswho are 3rd in the championship, are Currently 41 points behind Ferrari.

Furthermore, Alpine is a mammoth 242 points behind them in the fourth position, making it almost impossible for Charles to leave this season.

Ferrari needs to turn things around quickly and give Charles a fighting chance if they are to retain his services. With only 8 races remaining this season, Charles’ title hopes seem to be over. However, he’ll be hoping to end the season on a high.

Charles is currently P3 in Driver’s Championship behind Sergio Perez. He will be looking to overtake the Mexican in the championship and further help Ferrari finish second in the Constructors Championship.
