Alpine hope to fight with Mercedes

Alpine hope to fight with Mercedes

They Alpine Formula 1 team continues to make improvements to their the car in order to improve beyond their current fifth place in the Constructors’ World Championship.

Tied on points with McLaren (81), the two teams are battling it out for fourth, a long way off the 237 points that the third placed Mercedes have scored.

The Enstone based team are constantly working on improvements for their cars and are hoping that these updates will help them make up ground to the German team, who currently occupy third place in the standings but are significantly behind this season’s pace setters red bull other Ferrari.

Alpine know that catching Mercedes in the standings will be extremely difficult, mainly because the Brackley based outfit have three times the number of points accumulated by Esteban Ocon other Fernando Alonso.

But the French team are hoping to improve their on the track performance, which they hope will pay dividends during the second half of the season.

In the last round in Austria, Ocon couldn’t keep George Russell behind him and ended up finishing fifth.

Mercedes‘ Third and fourth places finishes, meanwhile, felt like a victory after both cars crashed during Friday qualifying.

but Ocon isn’t too phased by the apparent superiority of Toto Wolff‘s team, especially with the evolution of their A522 challenger.

Alpine are one of the teams on the grid that has constantly made updates to their 2022 challenger and seem to be finding a bit of form when it matters.

Ocon: We have improved the car a lot

Frenchman Ocon explains how the team’s updates could help both him and teammate Alonso take the fight to Mercedes.

“At the moment we are in this position,” Ocon told gp blog.

“Even though we have improved the car a lot, we haven’t improved it enough to be able to fight against the Mercedesbut the objective is to fight higher up, of course.

“It’s still early days and I’m hopeful that at some point we can fight with them. The improvements are on the way and we will keep going.”

“We had some good battles on track in Austria, but in the end George was too fast and fifth place was the best we could do,” Ocon explained.

On the right track

As for the team’s improvements, he is happy but also impatient to test what awaits the team this weekend at the French Grand Prix for what is both his and Alpine’s home race.

“As a team we’re heading in the right direction and we’re on a roll heading into Paul Ricard, one of the team’s home races and of course mine as well,” Ocon reflected.

“It should be an amazing weekend.”
