Since the announcement of Honda’s departure, F1’s ultimate goal has been to make the sport doable by cutting costs for every outfit. And so far the result has been a thumbs up. This includes the Volkswagen Group, which wants to push one of its brands into Formula 1 – either Audi or Porsche. In the midst of such a highly competitive battle for a grid spot, ex-F1 and Indy driver Michael Andretti is the newest name in the paddock to have shown interest in buying a team altogether.

Well there are many positive aspects to be seen; the most important thing of all is the relationship with Mercedes. Williams has been a Mercedes customer for seven years. In addition to an impressive engine in the rear, Andretti is also a partner of the McLaren-Mercedes boss in several other racing series.

Zak Brown has teamed up with Andretti in Supercars, Australian GT and Extreme-E. And the fact that Brown’s F1 team also drives with a Mercedes drive would tempt Andretti to buy up Williams.

Alfa Romeo F1 team

Well, the Andretti family’s relationship with Alfa Romeo dates back to the era of Mario Andretti, who drove for the outfit in 1981 apart from the two seasons at Ferrari. Therefore, Andretti holds an emotional place for the Italian outfit. But there are more reasons why Alfa Romeo could be a perfect match for the American.

Alfa Romeo is currently the title partner of the team owned by Sauber. As a result, the Swiss-based company is headquartered in Hinwil, Switzerland, which could complicate Andretti’s interest in purchasing the entire unit.

However, Sauber has an incredible wind tunnel system, which Andretti’s goal in Formula 1 will certainly look appealing.
