Lewis Hamilton missed stardom for the second time in a week after being overtaken by former Mercedes F1 rival Nico Rosberg in the race for the first Extreme E title. Hamilton suffered F1 heartbreak earlier this month when Max Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in controversial circumstances to win his first championship.
In the Extreme E Championship, participants drive electric vehicles in five remote locations – the arctic, desert, rainforest, glacier and coast.
These locations have already been damaged by a number of serious problems or are at great risk from climate change.
The first X-Prix of the season took place in April in the Saudi Arabian desert, at the weekend the last race on the Jurassic Coast took place in Dorset.
An Ocean X-Prix was held in Senegal in May, an Arctic competition in Greenland in August and an island race in Italy in October.
Before the first racing season, Hamilton started his own X44 team.

Conditions were difficult during the Dorset X-Prix and a wet and muddy course proved difficult to navigate.
Hamilton’s X44 team led from start to finish when they defeated Jenson Button’s JBXE team. But it wasn’t enough for the title.
Rosberg was in the UK to see his team win and posted a video on Twitter celebrating on the podium with his two drivers.
“I’m so proud that our @rosbergxracing team won the very first Extreme-E championship,” the 2016 F1 champion wrote in a separate tweet.
“It’s been such an intense season – racing in some of the most remote places in the world … this one is forever!
“Our drivers @molly_rally & @ JohanKMS88 have been excellent all season – the whole team worked so hard for this title and did a fantastic job.
“Thanks to all of our strong partners and incredible fans … we did it together.”
