Abu Dhabi confirms track layout changes for the final of F1 2021 | F1

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has often lacked action in recent years, which has led to criticism from fans and drivers.

According to RaceFans, turns 4, 5, and 6 will be converted into a single left-handed hairpin.

The second change takes place on curves 11, 12, 13 and 14, replaced by a single, curved left-hand curve.

Acting CEO of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, Saif Al Noaimi, confirmed at the opening show that the changes to the track will be made over the course of the summer.

“We tried to improve the race on the track. We’ve listened to our audience, fans, drivers, F1 and FIA, and we’ve been working on making some changes, exciting changes to the track layout this year.

“Just in time for this year’s edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, we will be making some modifications to the track over the course of the summer. We look forward to sharing more information about the changes in the months ahead. “

With just 12 points separating Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at the top of the championship, the organizers hope that Abu Dhabi can host its first title decision since 2016.

Since debuting on the F1 calendar in 2009, Abu Dhabi has seen three title showdowns.

Sebastian Vettel won his first title back in 2010 in a four-fold title final at the expense of Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber and Hamilton.

Hamilton won his second title in the Colon Decision in 2014, while Nico Rosberg took his Mercedes teammate to the 2016 Yas Marina Circuit.

“Ultimately, the goal is to create more opportunities for wheel-to-wheel racing,” added Al Noaimi.

“We want to create more overtaking opportunities and, overall, create a faster, more flowing race track in view of the current regulations for the vehicles.

“So we’re really looking forward to seeing some overtaking maneuvers and action, and hopefully the championship will be decided here at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.”
