McLaren P1 1:8 scale
McLaren’s current Ultimate Series include the Senna, the Elva and the Speedtail, but back in 2013 the only “real” supercar the British company had in its lineup was the P1. Launched at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and produced until December 2015, with only 375 units built, the P1 was considered by the automotive press to be the successor to the McLaren F1. At launch, the P1 supercar was priced at $1.3 million and current units listed for sale easily go for more than $2 million. While only 375 people can enjoy the real thing, the rest of us can go for this 1:8 scale model offered by Amalgam Collection. That is, of course, if you happen to have $18,000 sitting around.

A Few Reminders On The McLaren P1

When put on sale in 2013, the P1 was the first hybrid supercar in the world. It delivers incredible performance on both roads and the track, and every review out there will only say good things about it. The supercar is powered by a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine – the same one offered at the time in the McLaren 12C. The V-8 by itself produces a total of 720 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque, but when combined with an in-house-developed electric motor that added another 177 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque, the P1 ends up with a combined output of 903 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.
The supercar was also packaged with other Formula 1 inspired technology from McLaren’s racing division, including the active aerodynamics and Drag Reduction System, among many others. All these helped the P1 to be very fast: 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.

We must admit, $18,000 is not exactly cheap for a scale model. In fact, for the same money, or less than that, you can get the Chevy Spark (starts at $13,600), the Nissan Versa ($15,580), or Hyundai Accent ($16,645). These are of course the base prices, but you can add a few other options before hitting $18,000.
