It was a disappointing end to the season for Sebastian Vettel and Lance walklike both Aston Martin Cognizant F1 Team Drivers missed the final Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the points. Vettel was eleventh, Stroll was thirteenth in the Yas Marina Racetrack.
Sebastian Vettel had a strong race, the German, who started from a poor 15th place on the grid, looked in racing mood on Sunday. Unfortunately for the four-time world champion, he stayed behind Antonio Giovinazzi too long, which costs the Aston Martin driver valuable time.
It’s a frustrating end to the season for Vettel, who had very good pace in clean air. Vettel realized that he had good pace, but was simply behind Giovinazzi for too long.
“I think we had decent pace today, but unfortunately we were behind the Alfa Romeo from [Antonio] Giovinazzi too long and that cost us too much time. The pace was good in clear air, but there wasn’t much we could do. The safety car situation at the end was perhaps unprecedented and we just couldn’t end the season with points and ended up in 11th place. I also want to congratulate both Lewis [Hamilton] and max [Verstappen] because both have earned the world championship this year. “
“We weren’t waved to overtake” – Lance Stroll
Lance Stroll was very frustrated at the end of the season finale after being one of the drivers who wasn’t allowed to round off under the late race safety car. Stroll had hoped that he could make up a few places on the last lap, but the chance was taken from him.
13th place is certainly not where Stroll would have hoped to finish his hundredth race formula One, the Canadian is hoping for a better season next.
“It was a tricky race today and we couldn’t benefit from the late safety car because we weren’t waved through to overtake. That was frustrating and I didn’t get it. It was a late chance to make up some places and possibly aim for points after we decided to pit again. We didn’t want to end the season and my 100th Grand Prix with P13, but we’ve learned a lot this year that will do us good for 2022. It was great to be part of Aston Martin’s first year in Formula One and I am sure that we have a bright future ahead of us. “
