What’s new at VW-Porsche-Audi?

What's new at VW-Porsche-Audi?

Formula 1 news: It feels as if it has been a few years since we heard of a possible entry of the VW group into Formula 1. One thing is certain, however – we will get a new entry into the sport in 2026.

How am i so sure? Well, the corporation itself has repeatedly mentioned its prospect of F1 racing as it will massively benefit the brands in terms of marketing.

In addition, all currently ten teams have even agreed to abolish the MGU-H in particular because it has no real significance. And it costs a lot for no good reason.

On the road it is said that Porsche might as well partner with Red Bull as an engine partner, but then it might join Williams. As far as Audi goes, this seat is only reserved for McLaren.

Formula 1 news: what’s new?

Even Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali joined the conversation. He believes January will be an “important month” for Volkswagen as it continues to question the possibility of entering Formula 1.

The situation is that it wants to get back into the sport, but it can’t imagine which team to get into the sport with. Porsche’s partnership with Red Bull will massively increase the popularity of the German brand, while Audi-McLaren will mean positive news for both companies. Especially their road car division.

“I think we have an important month ahead of us in terms of the Volkswagen Group’s decision,” said Domenicali. “It would be great to participate, but I can’t speak on behalf of VW. I’ve been part of this incredible group for a number of years (as Lamborghini CEO and President from 2016-20) and I know how hard they are working on the future. “

“Our sustainable fuel, which we want to use in addition to new hybrid drives with a higher proportion of electricity, can open up a second path for you in addition to electromobility,” he said.

Maybe a few more automakers getting into the sport?

Stefano goes on to say that thanks to F1’s drive towards sustainability, he hopes the 2026 engines will prove to be an attractive prospect for any potential new team or supplier, and not just VW.

Even Williams’ team boss Jost Capito, who was also head of VW’s WRC program, says: “His team would be happy if Volkswagen got into F1.”

It’s worth noting that Williams is currently powered by Mercedes, which is set to last until 2025 before the brand new regs go into effect a year later.

Capito thinks that when the Williams team has an opportunity, talks will be held because getting a factory engine is attractive to any team.

All is said and done, it looks very likely that we’ll see a fresh entry into F1 soon, either as an engine partner or as an outfit. Nevertheless, it would be good if the decision is made at the earliest, because we cannot wait for an official announcement. No longer.
