“We have decided to make up for lost time” – Mika Häkkinen will drive historic McLaren F1 cars at the Laguna Seca Raceway this year.
McLaren has announced that it will feature a wide range of classic Formula 1 cars at the Velocity Invitational, a McLaren-launched event taking place November 11-14 at the incredible WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
The cars will be driven with the help of two-time F1 world champion Mika Häkkinen, and the vehicle collection will also include the McLaren MP4-13A, which won the championship in 1998.
This 1998 @ McLarenF1 MP4 / 13 took advantage of groundbreaking aerodynamics and a unique brake-steering system that helped @ F1MikaHakkinen dominate the 1998 F1 championship, and this November you can see both of them on the @WeatherTechRcwy track.

“We all missed racing last year and seeing these extraordinary and rare cars. So we decided to make up for the lost time with an event that will delight both riders and spectators, ”said Jeff O’Neill, founder of Velocity Invitational.
“With McLaren bringing unseen cars with exceptional technology to market for years, Velocity Invitational will seek to set a new standard for automotive lifestyle festivals in the United States.”
McLaren is thrilled
With McLaren also looking to expand into other motorsport companies, particularly in the United States, this would be an ideal opportunity and they are sure to love it.
“We are excited to partner with Velocity Invitational to bring our McLaren Racing history to the track and contribute to one of the most exciting automotive lifestyle festivals in the United States,” said McLaren’s Zak Brown.
In addition to McLaren, several other historic and current racing cars will be present at the event. In addition, fine wine tastings, gourmet meals and much more will be among the attractions of the event.
The Velocity Invitational hopes to build on the success of the first Sonoma Speed Festival in 2019. The 2019 event combined vintage races, wine and food tastings from the best California wineries and restaurants, and historical and cultural exhibits.
