Sainz often sang on the radio while at McLaren. Although those days are long gone, his classic “Smooth Operator” still rings in the ears of fans around the world.
While Ferrari isn’t known for playful interactions on their team radio, Sainz’s influence on the team seems to be growing. After an impressive P6 place at the Grand Prix of Styria, his race engineer Riccardo Adami congratulated him with a hilarious twist.
He said: “P6, P6! Great race, well done! Baby shark, baby shark! “
The Spaniard laughed at the 47-year-old’s singing before answering: “Thank you guys. Good race, very solid. Hard work pays off, so much better racing pace this time. “
Before Sainz, Adami was Sebastian Vettel’s race engineer. Although the Italian did not sing much for him, Vettel certainly sang a song or two on the radio. It seems that these habits resonate with Adami, who did not hesitate to jump on the Spaniard’s singing train this weekend.

After the race, Sainz believed he had shown good pace after his pit stop on lap 41, which Adami conceded. “The pace must have been pretty good, right? After the pit stop. When everyone pitted and I stayed outside, ”said Sainz.

“Yes, the pace there was incredibly fast,” said Adami.
With the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix on the same track, Sainz will try to maintain his good form. While Ferrari looked in better shape last weekend, they are still 12 points behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship.
Can the Spaniard build on his P6 place at the Red Bull Ring on July 4th? Only time can tell.
