WALKINSHAW IS BACK - Auto Action

Walkinshaw Ryan Walkinshaw, co-owner of Andretti United, is back after a long absence from COVID-19.

Walkinshaw, based in Monaco, will be out of hotel quarantine in time for next week’s Winton SuperSprint.

WAU is in a revival led by Chaz Mostert, battling for race wins.

Walkinshaw finally got permission to return to Australia last week.

He is quarantined in a hotel in Sydney for the prescribed two weeks.

He returned on May 7th and will be released on May 21st if he can return to Melbourne.

He is believed to have video-linked to the Gen3 team owners’ crisis meeting on Tuesday from his Sydney hotel.

He runs his family-run automobile group, which is converting Chevrolet and RAM pickups to right-hand drive, and WAU, which is owned jointly by McLaren F1 boss Zak Brown and IndyCar legend Michael Andretti.

Walkinshaw transformed the former HSV business in Holden and drove the slow recovery of the former Holden Racing team.

Under the local team boss Bruce Stewart, WAU has returned as the front runner with Mostert and a reinforced engineering team under Carl Faux.

Walkinshaw is quarantined at a Sydney hotel and conducts business over the phone and video.

He will be in Winton May 28-30 to see how WAU and Mostert can benefit from their front form.

He will no doubt have further discussions with Mostert about where to go next year and beyond, despite strong interest from Triple Eight to replace Jamie Whincup’s resignation.

The bet is Mostert will re-sign with WAU for at least two years to accomplish his mission to restore the Clayton roster to enduring fame, including a championship.

Walkinshaw will be staying here for a few months, possibly during the remainder of the Supercars Championship due to end on December 3rd and 5th at the Gold Coast 500.
