GTA-style art from McLaren’s social media team was used to spark anticipation for the Miami Grand Prix, a new Formula 1 race slated for 2022.
To celebrate the announcement of the Miami Grand Prix in 2022, one of Formula One’s most iconic teams, McLaren, posted a poster that was designed weird and suspicious Grand Theft Auto: Runner-Up City‘s box art. The image disappeared almost as quickly as it disappeared from the official McLaren channels, but it has thankfully been preserved as one of the best sports and gaming crossovers of the year.
The F1 is particularly popular in Europe, which is why there are few races in North America – although the racing simulation series does a fair bit better in the US, the newly revealed F1 will be one of the franchise company’s biggest entries in 2021. The only US F1 track is the Circuit of the Americas, which is located just outside Austin, Texas and which each year people from all over the world travel outside of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first race in Miami will be 5.41 kilometers and center around Hard Rock Stadium. It is expected that the speeds reach up to 320 kilometers per hour – naturally separated from public transport.

The McLaren picture was obtained from Mike Dailly, creator of the Grand Theft Auto series, and shared on Twitter. It shows drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, as well as the team’s Miami-style car and landscape. The city is famous for its beaches and Ocean Drive, which is home to many neon-lit clubs and other shops. Replicas of this and other Miami clichés can be found in GTA: Vice City, although this game is mostly about mimicking fictional versions of the city seen in Scarface and Miami Vice, as well as 1980s pop culture in general .
The game is almost 20 years old, and even its mobile follow-up, GTA: Vice City Stories, shipped back in 2006. Fans have often suggested that Rockstar should return to the scene as it remains one of the most popular hasn’t yet been redesigned in a major GTA title. Liberty City was featured multiple times, and even Los Santos was featured in both GTA: San Andreas and GTA 5. Some other options are Las Venturas and San Fierro, based on Las Vegas and San Francisco, respectively.
There have been rumors that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Vice City or even has a multi-city environment. The latter has been done before, but would be extremely resource-intensive to create worlds with the same level of detail as Grand Theft Auto V, ignoring next-gen graphics and gameplay upgrades. Rockstar is flush with cash from the DLC that was sold GTA Onlineand controls multiple studios, however, so this might be feasible – especially if the company plans to integrate cities into its online space.
