Max Verstappen held Red Bull Racing at the top of the timesheet in the second workout for that Grand Prix of Styria on Friday, but the chase group was led by this time McLaren F1 team‘s Daniel Ricciardo!
After the first training session earlier in the day, Verstappen was again the man to do it with Red Bull Ring, whereby the current World Cup leader has set a benchmark time of 1: 05.412.

Sebastian Vettel continued his good current form with the sixth best time for the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 team, just before the second McLaren from Lando Norris and the second Aston Martin from Lance walk. The top ten were rounded off by Red Bulls Sergio Perez and Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN‘s Antonio Giovinazzi.
The leadership Scuderia Ferrari Entry was this time Carlos Sainz Jr., but the Spaniard and his teammate Charles Leclerc – who crossed the finish line in thirteenth place – will scratch their heads this weekend in Austria, where their pace has stayed. Sainz also suffered his second spin of the weekend, this time at turn five.
Valtteri Bottas will have ended the session with a red face after spinning in the pit lane when exiting the pit lane. The second Mercedes driver landed in the wrong direction in front of the McLaren pit, after apparently losing control while accelerating out of his own pit.
The stewards in Austria announced that an investigation will be opened after the meeting, with the incident potentially being viewed as dangerous driving.
After missing the first training session as Robert Kubica took his place Kimi Raikkonen returned to his Alfa Romeo seat and set the fourteenth best time, just ahead of the leaders Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda of Yuki Tsunoda. Tsunoda’s teammate Pierre Gasly, who was second fastest in the morning session, did not attend the session because Honda identified a problem with its power unit that required thorough investigation and analysis.
George Russell was the best again Williams races Entries in 16th place, with teammate Nicholas Latifi slowest of all drivers who drove in nineteenth place for a time. In between came the two Uralkali Haas F1 Team Driver, Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin. Both Latifi and Mazepin spun, the former in turn six and the latter in turn four, but both were able to walk again.
As the elimination of Hamilton’s best time demonstrated, track restrictions continued to be a problem, with more times being lost because drivers exceeded the track limits during the session.
