TUMI, the leading international travel and lifestyle brand, today presents its new collection, which was designed and developed in collaboration with the luxury supercar manufacturer and the Formula 1 team McLaren.
McLaren’s designers, engineers and racing drivers travel thousands of miles around the world every year in the pursuit of perfection. Just as every driver relies on their car to get them across the finish line, the team relies on their luggage and travel needs to get them to their destination. This inspiration manifests itself in the outstanding quality of the collection.
For over 45 years, TUMI has made a name for itself for innovation, functionality and durable design, with an emphasis on optimizing the travel of global citizens.
Since the two companies announced their collaboration in 2019, Victor Sanz, Creative Director of TUMI, and Rob Melville, McLaren’s Design Director for Supercars, have developed a premium capsule collection of elegant business, travel and everyday items. Each piece is designed to be straightforward while enhancing performance in all areas of life in motion.
From the automotive industry to sports, TUMI is inspired by the world’s most innovative industries. For McLaren – a globally recognized leader in embedding cutting-edge technology into products with a clean design aesthetic – travel and lifestyle are essential. The two brands share a common vision to continuously achieve higher levels of excellence, which is reflected in the considered details and choice of materials in the McLaren-inspired TUMI range.
The capsule collection embodies the mutual ethos of TUMI and McLaren when it comes to performance luxury and consists of nine pieces. Each includes elements of McLaren’s sleek, bold supercars and racing cars. All are highlighted with McLaren’s signature papaya color and accented with CX6® carbon fiber.
The most important travel pieces include the Aero International expandable 4-wheel hand luggage and the Quantum duffel . Hand luggage is made from a mix of materials, including Tegris®, an extremely durable thermoplastic composite for racing cars. The hard shell is contrasted by a molded fabric faceplate with a supercar-influenced design that is reproduced throughout the collaboration.
This solid construction allows the collection to protect the content it contains and incorporates other elements of McLaren’s supercar designs. The interior has a compression strap that is based on the six-point racing belts on its racing cars and track-only models such as the limited-edition McLaren Senna GTR.
is designed to keep the wearer connected all day thanks to a USB port and a padded laptop compartment. TUMI’s trademark ‘Add
The pocket sleeve makes it a suitable companion for the hand luggage of the collection.
The Torque loop and Lumin Utility Pouch are additional contemporary styles for easy wear and hands-free days. The Orbit Small Packing Cube , Trace Expandable Organizer and divided compartment Teron Travel Kit are all ultra-portable accessories that allow you to protect, organize and keep your belongings readily available at every stage of your journey.
The collection will be available on March 31, 2021 through Tumi.ae, Tumi.sa and Tumi.com.kw, TUMI’s global retail stores, McLarenstore.com and select McLaren retailers worldwide.
Victor Sanz, Creative Director of TUMI, said:
‘For me this is the ultimate collaboration as TUMI and McLaren have an innate synergy.
We are two like-minded brands that share the same values - unparalleled quality, technical innovation and outstanding design. However, the value of this partnership goes beyond the product. With a strong focus on lifestyle, we design to improve the customer experience. With McLaren’s advanced technology and premium materials, our gear can tackle the toughest of excursions and still be effortlessly carried over into everyday life. ‘
Rob Melville, Design Director at McLaren Automotive said: “When I first met with Victor to define the collection, it quickly became clear to us that we all have a common creative vision for what we wanted to achieve.
‘At McLaren, we focus on formulating a clear selection of design language and materials that combine and lead to the performance of our car. We wanted to capture these aspects with TUMI, so we spent a lot of time analyzing and refining every aspect of this collection. The result is something that I’m incredibly proud of and that I believe will enhance the owner’s experience while reminding that, like our cars, it’s about enjoying the journey, not just the destination. ‘
McLaren Racing Commercial Director Mark Waller said: ‘McLaren strives to push the boundaries of design, performance and perfection in everything it does, be it on the road or on the track. This collaboration exemplifies that spirit. We are very excited to be working with TUMI on this collection. We look forward to our racing team using it worldwide at the start of the Formula 1 season in 2021. ‘
