A one-of-a-kind McLaren Speedtail was designed as a tribute to the first completed prototype of the 250-mile hypercar and will complete production of the 106 Speedtail.
The special edition called Albert was designed by the McLaren Beverly Hills dealer in the USA for a private buyer and manufactured and painted by the company’s own customization team McLaren Special Operations (MSO).
The Albert has a mix of magnesium silver exterior paint, similar to the color that the F1 ancestor of the Speedtail wore when it was introduced at the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix, and Ueno Gray, representing the F1 GTR, the 1995 Le 24 Hours Mans won.
The car is also given a unique streamlined paint job to emphasize the paint job. It took 12 weeks to create.
“As one of the last Speedtails to be built at the McLaren Production Center, it was very important to us at McLaren Beverly Hills that Albert honored the rich heritage of the brand, particularly the iconic McLaren F1,” said Parris Mullins of McLaren Beverly Hills .
The car was named Albert after the name of the 1992 McLaren F1 test mules, which themselves are named after Albert Drive in Woking, where Gordon Murray’s groundbreaking supercar was designed and built.
The original MVY02 Speedtail prototype was also named as a tribute to its predecessor Albert. It is designed to assess the central driving position and ergonomics, visibility and rear view camera positions of the Speedtail. It was originally built with the front panels of a 720S and was the first Speedtail to be ridden on public roads.
“The Albert name has a special resonance with MSO as we are the custodians of the McLaren F1 and are based on the Albert Drive property that McLaren Cars lived in in the 1990s,” said MSO managing director Ansar Ali.
“The Speedtail experience has been an exciting journey for our customers, from visualizing their imaginations and implementing these inspirations to sharing their joy in unveiling the finished product. Albert is bringing this project to a close and we are thrilled to finish it with a high grade. “
The Albert will make a public debut on Sunday August 8th at the Sunset GT in Los Angeles, a luxury-focused Cars and Coffee event.
