She said, “But then, like Kate, she had a very good knack for just calming things down.

“Keep up your job, be seen, but not turn anything into a soap opera.

Much has been said about Sophie’s personal relationship with the Queen and how she and the monarch formed an unbreakable bond.

Ms. James said video clips showed the couple “appeared to be getting along extremely well.”

She continued, “I think we’re forgetting that Sophie is the middle generation – Sophie is the only royal bride of this generation to have Teflon on her.

“She’s the only one who got stuck.

“Windsor men are notoriously difficult to marry.

“But I think she made it with Sophie, maybe also with one of the most difficult sons.

“I think the queen appreciated that and I think it raised her points in the royal family.”

Elsewhere, Kate and Prince William brought a touching message to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, on the weekend of her 74th birthday.

They posted a picture of Camilla wearing a dark blue blazer and a polka dot skirt on their Instagram page and wrote: “I wish the Duchess of Cornwall a happy birthday today!”
