Gordon Murray can make a hell of a good car. After all, he built the legendary McLaren F1. Decades after this car’s debut, nothing has risen to challenge its dominance as the ultimate driver’s car. Well, up to the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50.

The T.50 is more than just an F1 successor. It is the beginning of a whole new chapter in the legacy of Murray’s design philosophy.

What is the T.50?

You will be forgiven if you haven’t heard of Gordon Murray’s newest car. The legendary designer of the McLaren F1 isn’t exactly shouting “T.50!” From the rooftops. Turns out you don’t really need it when you are Murray. Plus, if your new GMA (Gordon Murray Automotive) T.50 sells out 48 hours after its first performance, you really, really don’t need to shout it from the rooftops.

The GMA T.50 sold out so quickly not only because of the name, but also because of what it promised. First, due to the carbon fiber chassis and Murray’s obsession with lightweight construction, the GMA T.50 weighs just 2.175 lbs. It also has a six-speed manual transmission, 654 horsepower, 345 lb-ft of torque, and a ridiculous redline of 12,500 rpm. Oh, and a familiar central seating position.

The headlines for the GMA T.50 are breathtaking enough, but Murray added finishing touches to make the Mclaren successor even more special. Some of you may remember the famous Brabham BT46B. It was a Formula 1 car that the famous Nikki Lauda only drove for one race. In fact, it had a fan that sucked in air from under the car, creating an enormous amount of continuously adjustable downforce. It was quick to say the least and was pulled back after criticism from other teams.

Gordon Murray never forgot this design. Now it has appeared in T.50. Only now there is no FIA that says “no” to him. Murray’s latest creation uses the fan in the same way as the Formula 1 car, drawing in air from under the car to create continuously adjustable downforce. In addition, the fan can also serve as a cooling unit for this rev-to-the-moon V12.

In short, the GMA T.50 literally improves upon every aspect of the Mclaren F1. And as we saw in Goodwood’s debut footage, it could sound even better. To be honest, that shouldn’t be possible. But here we sit and look at a true successor to the legendary McLaren F1 while Mr. Murray laughs all the way to the bank after doing it again. We’ll all see you in 20 years when this $ 6,000,000 on Bring A Trailer is worth.
