That's why Jay doesn't own Leno Ferrrais

Jay Leno’s car collection spans a variety of brands, from the familiar to the very esoteric. But one name is missing: Ferrari. In a December 2021 appearance on the Cars and Culture podcast, Leno explained why he doesn’t own a single car with the Prancing Horse badge.

“I just never liked dealing with the dealers,” Leno said. “It’s not an indictment of the car.”

Considering how expensive the cars are, Leno feels Ferrari dealers aren’t treating customers right. In the short clip, he cited Ferrari dealers forcing customers to buy multiple cars to get orders and urged owners of the company’s powerful guns to pay for certificates of authenticity. Other supercar manufacturers do it better, he said.

Leno recalled that McLaren had offered a free performance upgrade for its MP4-12C and that a salesman had honestly told him he didn’t need to spend $20,000 on carbon ceramic brakes. Leno is a big McLaren fan; He’s owned an F1 since the start and was the first outside of McLaren to drive a P1, but whatever, it’s hard to argue with such service.

Similarly, Leno said Porsche delivered his Carrera GT to his garage and gave him a full tour of the car (which admittedly turned out to be a bit unreliable). Ferrari would never offer this service, he claims.

Leno said Ferrari still make “excellent” cars, and he has featured a few on his YouTube show “Jay Leno’s Garage,” ranging from a classic 1960 250 PF Cabriolet to a modern SF90 Stradale. One benefit of a popular YouTube show is that you can always borrow one, even if you don’t want to deal with the potential headaches of owning a Ferrari.
