Take a tour of Gordon Murray’s Excellent Car Collection

Take a tour of Gordon Murray's Excellent Car Collection

Gordon Murray is one of the most legendary car designers of all time. He was the man behind the McLaren F1 and has had countless racing successes over the course of his career. Nowadays he sells the T.50, a spiritual successor to the F1 that uses a naturally aspirated V-12 and manual transmission. So you’d think Murray would have a great taste in cars himself. And you’d be right.

Top Gear managed to spend some time with Murray and a good chunk of his collection for a long hour-long video tour. After showing us around his newest car, the T.50S Niki Lauda, Murray moves on to his personal collection. We get a history lesson about how he got into racing and why he owns a Formula 3 car from the 1950s. We also get a look at his Lotus Seven and a number of racing cars he helped design, including the Brabham BT44B, his first Le Mans car, and his 1972 Formula 750 car.

Murray then shows us the rocket, his first street car. Then we get a summary of his extremely rare De Tomaso Vallelunga and a trio of very special light Abarths. Then we go to Murray’s lotus flowers and even check out his high-revving Honda S800.

The name of the game in this collection, as you have probably noticed, is Ease. It’s the same ethos that Murray has used throughout his career to create world-class racing and street cars. Which car is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below.
