In 2001 the former center of the Los Angeles Lakers visited the Hockenheimring for the German Grand Prix. Shaq wore some smart casuals and walked the grid alongside F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
Before Brundle discovered the two-meter tall NBA legend, he commented on different teams for the race. After discovering him, he tried to get a quick message from O’Neal. Initially, the four-time NBA champion refused to give Brundle his time. However, when he was told he was part of ITV, he took some questions from the former McLaren driver.
When asked how he was feeling, Shaq replied, “I’m pretty good. Just here to meet the world’s best racing drivers. ”Brundle then asked if he thought F1 drivers were paid as much as he was. Shaq responded not just by saying he didn’t know, but by promoting his upcoming job outside of basketball.
“You do it for fun, I do it for fun, we all do it for fun. Just here for a good time, I’m talking about my new album Shaquille O’Neal Presents Superfriends and my new book due out in January. It’s called ‘Shaq speaks back’. “
