Quarantine at a state-approved hotel is compulsory for all travelers, and that was the reason Ricciardo’s home race in Melbourne was canceled this year.
The McLaren driver is ready to accept the inconvenience and frustration of being locked in a hotel a fortnight after not seeing his family in Western Australia for the entire season.
“I’ll be staring at the ceiling of a hotel room for two weeks. So I’m going home. I have to, I have to go home. But it’s difficult, it’s hard to come back,” he said.
“Unfortunately they don’t make it easy for themselves, but they do. And I will do that. I need to see home, family and friends.
“As soon as I’m out of my four walls, I should hopefully spend another three or four weeks with friends and family. And it’s summer, so something I can look forward to. “
When asked if 2021 would be the biggest emotional roller coaster ride of his career, Ricciardo agreed it was, as he got off to a difficult start as he got used to the car but was gradually finding better shape.
“Yes, I would say. The second half of 2018 had its challenges and that was most of the time for me back then, but this year is a whole, yes, absolutely.
“I think about the first half and then about the highs. It was pretty wild. But I definitely think back to the second half of the season. Much better than August.”

Regarding the obvious climax of his victory at the Italian GP, he said: “The more time has passed since Monza, the more I realize the effect. And I really think it was the greatest moment, victory, race, kind of a day when you like that want, my motorsport career. “
Ricciardo also announced that he now has a tattoo of Fernando Alonso’s face on his left arm, although he confirmed it is not permanent.
“Fernando just got me for Secret Santa,” he explained. “And in addition to a nice bottle of red, he also got me a few temporary Fernando tattoos. You are beautiful!
“I mean, it looks pretty good. It’s the only athlete I’ve ever had a tattoo on my arm so I don’t want to knock on it. He’s got a pretty nice tan too. So look, it shines in the sun! “
