Racin’ USA Pt2, Cockpit G-Force included in the latest Automobilista 2 update

Racin' USA Pt2, Cockpit G-Force included in the latest Automobilista 2 update

Kicking off the first day of the new month, on Tuesday, Reiza Studios announced the release of their latest patch for Automobilista 2. The V1.3.3.0 patch comes with new content in the form of Road America and F-USA Gen 3 car class, both part of the Racin’ USA pt2 DLC, as well as a McLaren MP4-1C and two other F-Retro cars from the 3rd grade. In addition, GTS versions of the VW Polo and the VW Virtus from the TSI Cup class have been added.

Road America is the service’s newest venue. It is a 14-turn circuit that is 4.048 miles (6.515 kilometers) long. It hosts a number of American racing series such as NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar and more. Joining Road America are the Reynard 2Ki and the Lola B2K/00, two early 2000’s open-wheel cars that were prominently found in CART or champ car racing.

As for free content, the McLaren MP4-1C was a staple of the 1983 Formula 1 grid with Niki Lauda and John Watson behind the wheels. This open-wheel beauty is joined by two other chassis, the F-Retro Gen3 Turbo and the F-Retro Gen3 DFY Aspirated, in the new F-Retro Gen3 class.

In addition, the existing TSI Cup class will be expanded to include the VW Polo GTS and the VW Virtus GTS, two cars already expected in November by the Volkswagen TSI Cup by Acelerados project.

It was also announced that the cockpit camera physics would receive a major update in this patch. The Reiza forum said the following regarding the cockpit update:

  • Before V1.3.3.0, the camera’s g-force effect was only longitudinal (braking and accelerating), with no lateral g-force (from corners) or vertical (from bumps and suspension movements) even at 100% g-force enabled setting; We’ve now added settings for lateral and vertical G-Force effects like in AMS1.
  • Before V1.3.3.0, G-forces, tilt effect and vertex effects only worked in helmet cam mode – now these effects apply whether you use helmet cam mode or not.
  • As of V1.3.3.0, TrackIR users can change the g-number of the camera.
  • Prior to V1.3.3.0, VR and TrackIR users were forced to use SMS legacy camera head motion mode. Now VR and TrackIR users can enable our camera head movement mode on the camera settings screen if desired. For example, it makes it possible to align banked corners like in Daytona with the horizon without having to resort to the camera orientation. Note, however, that your previous VR settings are retained for existing profiles, so nothing changes for you unless you choose to change this in the camera settings screen.

All in all it’s quite a heavy update for Automobilista 2, the first big one for 2022 as well. Check out the full patch notes below and let us know what you think in the comments below. I’m off to give the new Champ Cars a spin!
