The McLaren MP4-25A, driven by Lewis Hamilton to win the 2010 Turkey Grand Prix, was sold live during a special auction during the UK Grand Prix last weekend for £ 4,836,000 ($ 6.6 million) sold.
This marked the first time an F1 car driven by Lewis Hamilton was put up for public sale. Chassis # 01 not only led the Briton to victory in the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix, but was also used by Hamilton when he secured second place in the 2010 China GP. It was also driven to third place by Jenson Button in the season final race in Abu Dhabi.
The MP4-25A is now the second most expensive F1 car ever sold at auction, just behind Michael Schumacher’s 2001 Ferrari F2001, which went on sale for £ 5,449,607 ($ 7.5 million) in 2017.

“It’s not often that such a special car comes onto the market. We knew from the start that it was a truly unrepeatable opportunity, ”said the auto specialist and Global Head of Private Sales at RM Sotheby’s Shelby Myers. “RM Sotheby’s is fortunate to have an ongoing partnership with Formula 1 and that is why we have always hoped to provide a unique environment in which to showcase the McLaren and hold the auction while the car is in full swing.
“Sir Lewis Hamilton’s accomplishments in the sport are so remarkable that they may never be surpassed, and so the cars he is associated with are likely to be the most sought-after in the decades to come. We are delighted that this fantastic car has found a new home and hope to see it on the track again in the near future. ”
