Pato O’Ward has been promised a test in McLaren’s F1 car if he can claim an IndyCar win for his Arrow McLaren SP team this season
In the latest F1 results-based bet, Mclaren Racing CEO Zak Brown promised his US-based Mexican driver a place in this year’s postseason test if he “deserves” it.
A well choreographed video posted by the team on social media shows a conversation between the driver and the team boss at the season opener in Alabama this weekend.
“I have an idea,” says Brown, sitting across from O’Ward in a motor home. “You already had a third one [place finish]. You’ve already had a second. So if you win one, I’ve spoken to Andreas [Seidl, McLaren F1 team principal]We’ll be putting you in the F1 car to Abu Dhabi at the end of the year. You have to earn it. “
“Let’s go,” says O’Ward. “I will bring you your victory. Hopefully several wins. “

The former Red Bull Junior will appreciate his chances of taking the test. He led 25 laps and finished fourth in the Alabama Grand Prix. He crossed the line 4 seconds behind the winner Alex Palou.
