21-year-old Norris made his F1 debut at McLaren in 2019 and has since taken two podiums for the team, most recently at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in April.

The British youngster’s McLaren contract expired at the end of the year, but the team announced on Wednesday ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix that a new multi-year deal had been signed.

The deal stipulates that Norris will stay with McLaren for “2022 and beyond” and solidify the team’s line-up for the next two seasons.

Norris was supported by the seven-time Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo for the 2021 season. The Australian’s contract ran until the end of the 2023 season.

“I’m very excited to have extended my relationship with McLaren from 2022,” said Norris.

“After being on the team for almost five years, I feel very part of the family here and I couldn’t imagine starting the next phase of my career anywhere else. McLaren has been a huge support since I was in the junior series I’ve really enjoyed learning and developing as a driver since then.

“My commitment to McLaren is clear: my goal is to win races and become Formula 1 world champion, and I want to do that with this team. Since we joined in 2017, we have consistently developed further and we have clear ideas together Ambitions for the future. “

McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl said the decision to extend Norris’ contract was “very easy” for the team given its performance and development since its F1 debut.

“He is an integral part of our performance recovery plan and his record so far, which secured two podiums with the team last year, shows that he is an excellent competitor on the track,” said Norris.

“Like him, we have strong ambitions for our future together and I am delighted that we are continuing this journey for both Lando and the team.

“We have an extremely talented and exciting roster in Lando and Daniel and this announcement is a strong signal of commitment to the next chapter for McLaren from 2022.”

Norris first joined McLaren’s Young Driver program in 2017 before finishing second in F2 the following year before graduating from F1.

Norris scored his first podium at the Austrian Grand Prix last year and helped McLaren take third place in the constructors’ championship.

“I am very excited to extend our agreement with Lando for 2022 and beyond,” said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing.
