McLaren will decide on entry into Formula E and the WEC in early 2022 | F1

McLaren has weighed the idea of Formula E after announcing last January that it had signed an option for future entry into the series for the 2022-23 season.

It is also considering taking part in the Le Mans 24 Hours by entering the WEC.

McLaren is currently racing in Formula 1, IndyCar and, most recently, Extreme E.

After the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Brown admitted that entry into other motorsport categories had to be “commercially sensible” for McLaren.

“What set our schedule is the technical preparation that would be required to prepare if we got on board.

“We did enough work on both series to get along a little with the timeline. And the reason the timeline shifts a bit is simply because we’re not yet able to make a decision.

“Of course it has to make economic sense for us. We have to feel comfortable where we are with our IndyCar, Formula 1 and Extreme E teams. We are planning a third car in IndyCar for the IndyCar series in 2023.

“I think it will be early Q1 before we make any final decisions.”

Regarding Formula E, Brown said last year: “We have been watching Formula E closely for some time and are tracking the progress and future direction of the series.
