McLAREN will do a one-off paint job for the Monaco GP this week in the classic Gulf Oil color scheme.
The British team has given up its now traditional all-papaya paintwork for the blue-orange look that has been used on racing cars since the late 1960s.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown believes the new colors will make his team’s cars the “star of the show” for the most famous race in F1.
He said: “Given our shared history between McLaren and Gulf, we thought we should visit them again and it became pretty obvious that we should do something like that.
“You all know how iconic the golf livery is, and then we asked our teams to come up with something that captured something very special.
“At this point we only intend to run it in Monaco. I think if you want a special paint job you have to keep it special.
“I’m excited to see the reaction from the fans and then I think Monaco will be the star of the show.”
British driver Lando Norris added: “It’s beautiful. I think everyone can agree that it will be by far the best looking car on the grid.

As long as you’re looking good, that’s the first box you need to tick, and we definitely will, so I’m really excited.

“I said to Zak, it’s even better than our current livery. It’s a cool opportunity for both of us and especially for Monaco. I think it brings it all together, it’s pretty unique.”
Australian Daniel Ricciardo said: “Of course I love it. It’s cool. I didn’t need another reason to come to Monaco so I have to control myself and save some energy.
“As long as you’re looking good, that’s the first box you need to tick, and we definitely will, so I’m really excited.”
In the meantime, Brown hopes the paint job isn’t bad luck.
The last F1 team to do a completely one-off paint job was Mercedes in Hockenheim in 2019.
That sparked a disastrous weekend for the team and made the Merc bosses look red.

Brown said: “I think that had to be a fluke with Mercedes. The weather was difficult so the drivers threw it off the track.
“They celebrated some kind of anniversary. But I think it was just a coincidence.
“I think if these guys put their helmets on they’ll forget what the racing car looks like, so I’m not worried about that at all.”
