McLaren shows support for NBA finalist Phoenix Suns with livery gesture at the British GP

With the UK Grand Prix being the home race of several F1 teams, fans can expect exciting paintwork changes to represent the teams’ British teams. McLaren took a different turn, however – they changed their paint job to support an NBA team instead!

Instead of nationalities, the Woking outfit chose to support a team based on their shared color schemes. The papaya team decided to announce their support for another papaya team (albeit from the NBA), the Phoenix Suns, by putting the latter’s emblem on their halo for the Silverstone race.

When Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris’ two papaya cars drove around on Friday, Silverstone spectators were mesmerized to see the emblem of a basketball team on the halo of the MCL35M.

The Woking-based roster took up Twitter on their loyalty to the team, they wrote:Game 5 the #NBAFinals tomorrow BIG! We support them @To sunbathe in their papaya jerseys. Let’s do it, team! #RallyTheValley. ”

How did Ricciardo and Norris perform on Friday?

The British GP had a new format this weekend, as there was only one practice session followed by a qualifying session that sets the grid for the sprint race on Saturday. Both Daniel and Lando knew they had to improve their game if they were to get results that could help them in the team standings.

Norris certainly brought his A game with him as he was the second fastest in FP1. In the meantime, his Australian team-mate was ninth fastest on the timesheet.

In the qualifying session later that day, however, both McLaren drivers found each other in Q3. While Ricciardo was P7, his 21-year-old teammate was just ahead of him in P6.
