Stroopwafel, schnitzel and a superb show of support. Whether it’s the mountain-lined backdrop, the multiple overtaking opportunities, the food or the absolute army of you that always show up, Spielberg is one of those places we simply never get tired of.
We’ve been there five times in the past three seasons alone and we’d happily return this weekend – but unfortunately, we can’t, so we’ll settle for re-living the weekend through your eyes and imagination.
We’ve said this before, but the power of your support knows no bounds, and this weekend was a great case in point. We’d taken a bit of a beating by the end of a soggy first day in Spielberg, but your rallying inspired a recovery on Saturday and Sunday and pushed us to our first double-points finish since Azerbaijan.
We may have gotten a bit wet at the track on Friday, but at least our fans in England were enjoying some sunny weather.
Although there can’t have been many of you left in the UK, given the amount of you that we saw around the track.
We’ll never fail to be amazed by your creativity.
Some of you went all out… Double denim really is making a comeback in 2022.
Wait… If your trainer is in your hand, what’s on your feet?
You’re right, @mark_mctaggart, the MCL36 isn’t a climbing frame. Can someone please tell the miniature mechanic to get off it?
Us too, @ricnorrisf1.
I mean, we’re pretty sure that’s Lando?
Errmm… What?
It’s the Austrian Grand Prix and you know what that means… stroopwafels!
You ensured our spirits never dropped, but there’s no denying that FP1 and qualifying were difficult. Issues and misfortunate dogged the team and neither Lando nor Daniel could make it out of Q1, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively. But with a sprint to come on Saturday, there was a whole lot of racing left to do.
@McLarenF1 Hold your heads high team onto the Sprint Race it’s a tough weekend so far and the margins are so close.
@RichC_McLaren1
You truly traveled far and wide to attend the Austria Grand Prix…
And those of you who couldn’t be there were repping the papaya from home…
… From the office…
… And even from a theme park!
With the help of the papaya army, Lando and Daniel made up four places each in the sprint to put them within a whisker of the points for Sunday’s grand prix.
As always, before the race we wanted to know where you were watching from… And we weren’t surprised to get so many tweets from the track!
Race day… Let’s get it!
Lando and Daniel picked up from where they left off when the lights went out for the race, launching themselves into the points paying positions within one lap. We told you Austria was good overtaking…
The movin’ and shakin’ continued as Lando tussled his way up to seventh, whilst Daniel gained another place to move up to ninth. Given the state of play on Friday, we’d call that a job well done.
Fist bumps all round.
A massive team effort! We were all feeling a little proud come Sunday evening.
@McLarenF1 So so proud of you guys! What an amazing result from the team and such a recovery from quali on Saturday
@ricclando
We reckon we’ve earned a slice, @agi0708?
See you in two weeks, @David21dacMCL35!
And we’ll see you in a year, @her_name_juLia.
