McLaren Racing - McLaren Racing forms a groundbreaking alliance to diversify talent in motorsport

McLaren Racing is pioneering a strategic alliance with four seasoned partners to drive a program of joint initiatives to diversify talent in motorsport.

The four partners are: Women’s Engineering Society (WES); Equal engineers; The Smallpeice Trust; and creative approach.

The alliance, known as McLaren Racing Engage, will advance the team’s diversity, equality and inclusion agenda as part of its broader sustainability program, including its commitment to F1’s WeRaceAsOne platform.

The alliance will have a common agenda to:

• Promote STEM and F1 as an accessible calling for underrepresented and disadvantaged groups
• Promote a diverse and inclusive culture within McLaren’s workforce and communities by providing access to young people and underrepresented groups
• Driving meaningful and sustainable change for McLaren Racing as an employer and F1 as a sport and industry

McLaren Racing Engage will be the first of its kind in Formula 1, uniting every partner to dramatically improve diversity and inclusion across the industry and inspire future generations of talent. The alliance will run a program of initiatives accessible to all over several years by investing in grassroots education and training through various STEM initiatives, funding and mentoring programs.

The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and McLaren Racing will launch a mutual mentoring program for McLaren Racing engineers and WES mentees, sponsor the annual WES and student conferences, and participate in the annual Lottie Tour campaign.

As a founding partner of the EqualEngineers Pathways program, McLaren Racing will support professional mentoring and career events. McLaren Racing will also be a main partner in the 2021 Engineering Talent Awards. In addition, EqualEngineers will provide in-house training for McLaren Racing employees focused on creating inclusive cultures.

The Smallpeice Trust and McLaren Racing will work together to create a bespoke STEM Challenge Day to introduce students to the exciting world of engineering. McLaren Racing will also fund its Arkwright Engineering Scholarship program, which provides A-level students with financial assistance, enriching activities, and mentoring opportunities.

Creative Access will work with McLaren Racing to improve inclusive strategies, guidelines and recruitment processes to hire, train and develop various talents in their creative roles. McLaren Racing will also sponsor the Creative Access Career Development Scholarship with a grant.

Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO said:

“McLaren Racing is driven by bold innovation, but bold innovation is based on a variety of thoughts and experiences at all levels and functions that reflect our fans, our partners and our communities. By investing in basic talent through these STEM initiatives, mentoring and integrative development programs, we aim to inspire future generations of talent by promoting their passion for technology and Formula 1.

“We aim to become a more diverse and integrative team and sport through our commitment to F1’s WeRaceAsOne platform.”

Daniel Gallo, Chief People Officer, McLaren Racing said:

“The creation of a diverse and integrative organization is of central importance for our employees and our cultural journey as a racing team and employer. We are determined to move this forward in the years to come and we understand that it will take time and energy in the long run.

“We are excited to bring McLaren Racing Engage to market with some really great experts in their fields who share our vision and passion for this topic. We hope to use the alliance to reach those who would not automatically see Formula 1 and engineering as a career choice for themselves, so that we can meet the growing demand for STEM and creative skills in our industry. “

Tim Bampton, Chief Communications Officer, McLaren Racing said:

“As part of the social priority in our sustainability roadmap, our goal is for our workforce to be more representative of the population by 2030.

“We are already working with the Formula 1 Task Force to advance the diversity, inclusion and opportunity agenda across sport in all its forms. Now, McLaren Racing Engage will directly help us move forward in our efforts to positively influence, influence and inspire the communities in which we work and race. “
